Today is Rafael's seventh birthday! It didn't start out all that great, though. Apparently his teacher wouldn't let the class sing "Happy Birthday" to him. She seems to have some sort of grudge against him... But anyway, Jimmy took Little Bear and Pufferfish to the city tow see their grandparents and Tigerlily. So I thought I would do something special with Rafael. My original plan was to take him to see the movie "The Tooth Fairy." It was supposed to start about ten minutes before Rafael got out of school, but I figured it wouldn't be a big deal to miss the previews and first few minutes.
So we got to the theater, only to be told by the lethargic teenagers working there that the entire movie had been cancelled because nobody had shown up! And there were no other kid movies playing there.
I spotted a bowling alley across the street, and cheered Rafael up by telling him we could go bowling! He got all excited as we walked across the street... only to find out that the bowling alley was closed, for no apparent reason!
Next I spotted a small toy store nextdoor to the bowling alley, so I told Rafael we could go in there and look around. I ended up buying him a bag of marbles and an Uglydoll. Afterwards, we got sodas and went home.
I was feeling horrible that all of my plans to give Rafael a great day had backfired. But then, as we drove home, Rafael piped up from the back seat, "Nicki, you and me had the best day together, didn't we? I love you more than anything!"
I love you too, little dude!
Bummer that all of your ideas backfired! At least he was positive about it. That's totally sweet what he said to you!
