Have you ever played the game "Beep," where one person starts telling a story and then says, "Beep," and the next person has to carry it on> I was trying to teach the game to Little Bear and Pufferfish last night. It went a little something like this...
Me: "Once upon a time there were two little girls named Sally and Milly*. They were at home playing, when they heard a knock on the door! They had always been told never to open the door to strangers, but Milly was only two, so she forgot. Before Milly could stop her, she ran and opened the door! A man was there. He said he was selling magic rocks for seventy-five cents. The little girls asked, "What do the magic rocks do?" The man said, "I can't tell you, but its definitely something greaat!" So the little girls ran to their piggy bank and got out seventy-five cents so they could buy the rocks. Beep!"
Pufferfish: "And then a fox came into the house! And he started wiggling! And some shoes came out of his mouth! And some books, and a TV, and a book case, and the floor, and a backpack, and a couch, and a table, and a picture, and a tree, and candles, and pillows, and blankets, and a fish..."
Little Bear: "Hey, you're just saying everything around us!"
Pufferfish: "Yes! And a doll, and Elmo, and a truck, and a closet, and a window..."
Me: "Say beep, Pufferfish!"
Pufferfish: "Beep!"
Little Bear: "And then Jimmy came into the room..."
Me: "Wait, how is Jimmy in this story?"
Little Bear: "Well, I mean, the girls' dad. Actually his name was Frank. Frank The Dad."
Jimmy: "Frank The Dad????"
Little Bear: "Yes! Frank The Dad came into the room and yelled, `CLEAN UP THIS MESS!' Beep!"
Me: "So the little girls cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. And it took them hours. When they were all done cleaning, they decided, they were going to use the magic rocks to do something else. They were going to use them to make a huge wish come true! Beep!"
Pufferfish: "Then some cereal came out, and a computer, and crayons, and candy hearts, and bowls, and pencils, and homework, and cups, and spoons, and Little Bear, and Rafael, and spaghetti..."
Little Bear: "Say beep!"
Pufferfish: "Beep!"
Me: "Okay, so, Little Bear, what did the girls wish for?"
Little Bear: "They wished for a thousand puppies! Beep!"
Me: "So all of the sudden, there were puppies everywhere... big puppies, little puppies, shy puppies, wild puppies, happy puppies, silly puppies... puppies puppies puppies! All of the sudden Frank The Dad came into the room and said, `Why are all these puppies here! Get rid of all these puppies!' Beep!"
Pufferfish: "And birds and cats and the floor and the circus and cars and a jacket and boots and BEEP!"
Me: "Right. Little Bear, what did Sally and Milly do then?"
Little Bear: "They hid the puppies! Beep!"
Me: "Yes, they hid the puppies, and they trained the puppies to be very quiet at night when Frank The Dad was home! But when they took the dogs for a walk, they had to take them out on one thousand leashes! Beep!"
Pufferfish: "And Dora and Diego and Swiper and snow and lights and stairs and rugs..."
Little Bear: "Ugh, I'm going to sleep!"
Me: "Wait, why don't you tell the ending!"
Little Bear: "I want you to tell the ending."
Me: "Alright. So one day the girls were at home and a burglar tried to sneak in! But all the puppies attacked him and bit his arms and legs and feet and chased him away."
Little Bear: "And they bit his nose!"
Pufferfish: "And his butt!"
Me: "Right! So Sally and Milly called the police, and the police called Frank The Dad. When Frank The Dad heard that the puppies had saved the day, he said, `Those puppies are heroes! You can keep them after all!' So they got to keep all of the puppies, and they never had to hide them again. The end!"
That was an exhausting story, wasn't it?
* When I was little my dad used to tell me and my brother stories about two kids named Sally and Billy. So I just changed one of the names to be two little girls for Little Bear and Pufferfish!
That is the funniest thing I've read in a long time! I love how the girls got into it. You are so creative!
