The other day me and Sue (Tigerlily's mom) took Little Bear, Pufferfish and Tigerlily, plus Tigerlily's sister Little Bit and cousins Becca and Patty, to the zoo. Of course none of the smaller kids wanted to walk! We did have a double stroller, but it was really hard to fit everyone in it along with our cooler and bags and stuff. We ended up renting a wagon, and had to haul both the wagon and the stroller all around the zoo! That got me thinking about the different kinds of strollers that might be available these days. I know there are a lot!
A great site for looking for the best strollers is Stroller.com. They have all sorts of strollers, including umbrella strollers, jogging strollers, and strollers for children with special needs.
The strollers for children with special needs caught my eye because they are specially designed strollers to accomodate kids (and even adults) who usually need wheelchairs to get around. Unlike regular wheelchairs, these strollers are more lightweight and streamlined. They can be pushed through places like grassy parks, mild hiking trails, and even the beach! I once read a blog entry by a mother who accompanied her son, who had cerebral palsy and used a wheelchair, on a field trip to the beach. The son was mainstreamed into a regular classroom, and his classmates were splashing around and wading in the shallow water. The mother had one of these special strollers, and she was actually able to push her son along in the water, so he could enjoy the water along with the rest of the kids!
I also liked looking at these pram strollers, which you barely ever see anymore. They're really only appropriate for infants who cannot sit up yet, because not many older babies would be content to lie down and stare at the sky during their walks. And they're kind of bulky! But they sure are cute!
What we brought to the zoo was a "sit and stand" stroller, where one child sits in a regular seat, and another child can sit or stand on a little bench-like seat in back. When Tigerlily and Little Bear were smaller, they could sit side-by-side on that bench seat, with Pufferfish in the front seat. But it doesn't work so well anymore, now that they're getting bigger! So I liked looking at a double sit and stand stroller on Strollers.com. This one has two regular stroller seats, one in front of the other, for two smaller children to sit in, as well as a bench seat for a third child to sit or stand on. Plus it has a huge storage basket beneath it. This would have been perfect for our trip to the zoo, and to anywhere else where we might take all three of the little girls!
Strollers.com also has a clearance section, and a selection of other baby gifts. Plus, many of their prices are below the list prices. So if you or someone in your life are looking for the perfect stroller, this is a great site to check out!
