Painting With the Sun!
I found this project idea online, and I thought I'd share it with you all because its a project that even the littlest kids can do, its inexpensive, very little clean-up time, ansort of a mix of a science project and an art project.
All you have to do is get some pieces of dark colored construction paper, and a bunch of knick-knacks that can be laid flat on top of the paper. For instance, combs, scissors, forks, etc.
Put the sheets of construction paper outside in a safe, sunny place... We used the picnic table on the patio. Then, arrange the knick-knacks on the sheets of paper, however you want.
All you have to do now is leave the projects alone for a while. Its best if you set this project up right before you leave to run errands or something, because otherwise the kids are going to want to keep checking it, and if you move the pieces around too much they're going to get messed up!
You can have the kids guess what they think will happen to their projects in a little while.
When you're ready (give it a few hours, at least... we were going to leave ours out all day long, but it started getting rainy) have the kids move all of the knick-knacks off of the papers, and see what the sun has "painted" on their papers!
Here's how ours turned out!
<---This is Little Bear's. She used some Marti Gras jewels, a plastic ring from a Happy Meal, some forks, and some poker chips.
<----This is mine! I used a pair of pliers, a Scrunchi, a knife, and some poker chips. I also used a clear plastic spoon, which you can see had an interesting effect!
Pretty cool, huh? You can do all kinds of things with this!
Hmm, I feel like Mr. Rogers right now!
